Don Harris Oben announces the release of ‘A Journey to the World: Reminiscences and Moments’

New autobiography captures the author’s enduring and memorable moments, his experiences and lessons learned

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Compelled to share his wide and varied experiences throughout his academic, professional, social and private life, Don Harris Oben walks down the memory lane in his debut book titled “A Journey to the World: Reminiscences and Moments”.

“It is a book in which I narrate the story of my journey through the world to ‘broaden my own horizons’ like my father before me had done in the 1930s and 1940s in Nigeria. It is a journey during which I experienced the goodness and ugliness in human behavior and character. This book is an honest and captivating story of that journey,” Oben shares.

“A Journey to the World: Reminiscences and Moments,” while published as an autobiography, is written like a novel rather than in the traditional manner of a treatise. It recalls certain conversations that capture some of the enduring and memorable moments during the author’s journey. The book also raises some moral and other questions, which provide food for thought to the reader. It is written in a style that combines humor and wit with serious analysis to captivate and sustain the interest of the reader.

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Oben says, “Firstly, I want readers to know that with determination, one can achieve one’s goals. Secondly, I want readers to know about Africa’s major development  challenges during the decades of the 70s, 80s and 90s, and the role played by its foremost regional organizations — the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Organization of African Unity (OAU) — in trying to chart a path for its socio-economic development and transformation. Thirdly, I want the book to entertain, inform, arouse and tickle the mind of the reader. Fourthly, I want the book to teach readers one of my major experiences and that is: One can turn ‘enemies’ into friends. The good book says love your ‘enemies’ and do good to those that hate you.”
